Deskless workforce needs technology too!

Deskless workforce needs technology too!

Google estimates that 80% of the global workforce is a deskless worker. That’s more than 3/4 of the population.

Studies have also shown that 3 out of 4 employees are non-desk workers and that a whopping 83% of employees do not have a email address associated with their workplace.

Typically, most members of the deskless workforce carries a mobile phone with them on the job — which makes it easy for them to access productivity apps.

In fact, 77% of American’s own a smart phone.

There are thousands of companies that have created technology to maximize workflow for the deskless workforce. For instance, PlanGrid transforming the construction industry, Square for the restaurant industry, and Shopify helping small e-commerce businesses thrive.

The BYOD movement is in full swing — so it you haven’t jumped on board, the time is now. Technology is developing at a rapid rate, one thing’s for sure, it’s here to stay.

Here are just some of the reason’s to onboard a deskless workforce to have greater access to technology:

1. Keep employees in the loop.

When you have a team that is on the go it’s hard to keep tabs on everyone. Communication is key and smart tools are vital to the success of a company.

We are partial to Voxer for Business for all of your real-time communication needs. Send live voice messages, text, photos and videos. Best of all, your chat history is saved. So your team never has to worry that they missed any details since messages can be played over and over again.

2. Not everyone works 9–5.

Chances are 9–5, Monday thru Friday is top of mind when thinking about a typical work week. But, for many, this isn’t the case.

Multiple work schedules and different times zones shouldn’t stop teammates from connecting with one another on a regular basis. There are countless apps to track what happened on all shifts. Avoid letting your team members stay in the dark- when it’s easy to stay connected.

3. No man left behind.

Don’t make employees feel left out just because they don’t spend all day at a desk. There are tons of apps that let employees on all levels communicate with upper management.

We like, 15Five. It’s a performance management solution that allows employees to give feedback on their experience, let their voices be heard by managers which eventually, trickles all the way up the chain (especially important in large corporations where communication is easily misplaced).

Regardless of what shift they work and who they interact with, this app gives them the opportunity to make sure they aren’t left in the dust.

It’s the technology age after all.

Overall, there are thousands of apps out there that help benefit the deskless workforce. If your team is comprised of many non-desk workers make sure you start making moves towards including everyone in the technology movement.
