Educators Use Voxer to Share Challenges and Victories Daily

Voxer user Stacia and her EdTech friends initially began using Voxer to share their daily challenges and victories of their daily, professional lives. Today, because of Voxer, they’ve become much more than professionals learning from one another. This is their Voxer story.

Over the past year and a half, I have met some amazing educators who share my passion and vision for technology in education. Four of us – Cat, Jaime, Kate, and I met at an educational conference. We enthusiastically shared what we learned from the conference and eventually created a weekly professional hangout where we share our expertise in education. Over time, our circle increased to include Amy, Allison, and Rodney, who were faithful followers of our “show” and just as passionate about technology and education. .

Within this diverse group of individuals, a few of us never met “face-to-face” because we live in different areas. One evening, after a show, we began playing around with Voxer and immediately fell in love with the app. With a variety of backgrounds in education and technology, all of us seemed to work in positions where there’s a tendency to feel “alone”. Voxer offered us the chance to belong to a virtual “department” of sorts. We began sharing our struggles and successes via Voxer. Many times, in sharing our struggles, we were able to relate to one another and offer suggestions and solutions. And, when successes were shared, the group genuinely felt a sense of pride.

We loved Voxer so much because we could hear each other. We heard passion, excitement, disappointment, frustration, a variety of feelings that are hard to translate through written word. Immediately, the dynamics of how we communicated and what we communicated evolved.

Within two weeks, our conversations morphed from mostly professional to highly personal. As we shared the highs and lows of our personal stories concerning our childhood, education, past jobs, relationships, parenting, etc., it gave us a clearer picture of the resilience and brilliance of one another.

Yes, we still have very meaningful conversations about our days, our struggles, our successes; however, I cannot describe how wonderful it is to have people, who feel like close friends, give me their honest, personal, and yes, professional feedback. This group of like-minded educators, who initially met at a conference (where connections made often stay on a professional level), has developed into something so much great, much in part to our daily Voxer dialogue.
